What is a shunt?

A shunt and its assemblies are used to measure electrical current and represent one of the most widely adopted methods for current measurement. A shunt is a resistive element with a specific predefined resistance introduced into an electrical or electronic circuit. The voltage drop across this resistance is measured, and using Ohm's law, the corresponding current value is derived. This method enables instantaneous AC or DC current measurement.
